The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the DFINITY Foundation have announced a partnership to explore sovereign cloud infrastructure and decentralized artificial intelligence for public-sector projects. The work will focus on digital transformation across governments, civil society organizations and UNDP initiatives. UNDP is a UN agency focused on sustainable development and public-sector support, while DFINITY Foundation develops decentralized cloud and blockchain infrastructure.

The partnership will include three main areas. Through the SDG Blockchain Accelerator, UNDP Country Offices will test sovereign cloud infrastructure, AI software development and decentralized AI applications for development projects. The Future of Work Academy will help civil society organizations build and test their own applications. The Government Blockchain Academy will work with governments and public institutions on pilot frameworks based on local and national priorities.

The projects will use DFINITY’s Cloud Engines and Caffeine AI platform to help organizations build and maintain applications in secure and locally governed digital environments. The partners also plan to study how these technologies can protect sensitive data, improve digital resilience and strengthen local technical capacity.
