Tether Announces the Launch of its Self-Storage Digital Wallet! Here Are the Details

Tether has officially launched tether.wallet, its self-custodial digital wallet product. With this new product, the company aims to bring its global payment and settlement infrastructure directly to end users.

The new wallet application includes several innovations aimed at simplifying the user experience. Accordingly, users will be able to make transfers using readable identifiers such as “[email protected]” instead of complex and long wallet addresses.

This approach is expected to prevent irreversible errors caused by entering incorrect addresses. Furthermore, users will not need to hold a separate network token or “gas” asset to conduct transactions. Transaction fees will be collected directly from the sent asset, eliminating a significant point of friction in blockchain usage.

tether.wallet is built on the open-source WDK (Wallet Development Kit) infrastructure developed by Tether.

At launch, the wallet offers support for USDT and XAU₮ on Ethereum, Polygon, Plasma, and Arbitrum networks, while also supporting USA₮ on Ethereum and Bitcoin transactions on both the mainchain and the Lightning Network. The company plans to integrate more blockchains into the system in the future.

The application automatically displays users’ assets and available networks, concealing technical details in the background. This aims to provide a simpler and more accessible experience, especially for new users.

Experts believe that Tether’s move is a significant step towards integrating cryptocurrency into everyday payments.
