5 August 2024 — Tether Operations Limited, the largest company in the digital asset industry, and Xion Global, a Multi-Chain Web3 Crypto Payments Infrastructure provider, have announced a strategic alliance to promote blockchain education in South Africa. This initiative aims to deliver educational content and interactive activities on blockchain technology and its key use cases, positioning Tether as a major contributor to digital education in developing regions.
This collaboration aims to enhance digital transaction capabilities in South Africa through Xion Global’s innovative solutions. By integrating with the Scan to Pay application, which is part of South Africa’s largest QR ecosystem, Xion Global will align with Tether’s goal of facilitating accessible digital transactions. This collaboration will also transform South Africans’ interaction with digital currencies, leveraging blockchain technology educational opportunities and offering advanced financial services. Additionally, the integration of USD₮ on the Polygon Labs network will allow users to connect MetaMask wallets and utilize Xion Global’s Web3 payment APIs for real-time transactions, making crypto payments as seamless as traditional fiat transactions.
Xion Global and Tether will launch a comprehensive digital education campaign across South Africa, including educational videos, case studies, live talks with industry leaders, and accessible materials on cryptocurrency payments. This initiative aims to demonstrate the economic benefits of stablecoin payments and build trust in digital financial solutions.
This is part of a broader initiative aimed at creating a world where education is limitless and accessible to everyone, regardless of location, by supporting initiatives that break down barriers to education, as evidenced in Tether’s recent collaborations in Africa, such as sponsoring the Africa Tech Summit, The African Bitcoin Conference in Ghana, collaborating with CBC during the Bitcoin Pizza Day and with Bitnob to educate students across universities in Ghana.
“We’re excited about this alliance with Xion Global, which represents a significant step in our commitment to global digital education and the informed use of cryptocurrencies,” said Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether. “This collaboration will open new possibilities for financial inclusion and economic empowerment in South Africa.”
Aeryn Quarmby, COO of Xion Global, added, “We look forward to working with Tether to enhance the understanding of stablecoin payments and make digital transactions as intuitive and reliable as traditional methods.”
With a market cap exceeding $114 billion, Tether is the most widely used stablecoin, supporting diverse use cases globally. This collaboration with Xion Global highlights Tether’s commitment to advancing digital education, especially in emerging markets like South Africa. The country is a leader in crypto regulation in Africa.
