Dabba, a decentralized physical infrastructure network (Depin), has announced it will deploy 10,000 new wifi hotspots globally, aiming to enhance internet accessibility in underserved Indian regions. This expansion coincides with the upcoming token generation event on the Solana blockchain scheduled for July.

Dabba’s Depin Initiative Targets India with 10,000 Wifi Hotspots

The initiative, dubbed season two of Dabba‘s service rollout, is set to provide internet solutions to areas with high data demand, particularly in rural and semi-urban regions of India. Despite India‘s high number of internet users, approximately 44% of its population remains offline, underscoring a significant gap in digital connectivity that Dabba seeks to bridge.

Alongside the hotspot rollout, Dabba introduced an explorer tool to help users locate existing data hotspots and monitor network performance. Initially covering the Dabba testnet—which has been active for two months—the tool reflects the network’s current state, which has seen over 1,500 hotspots deployed and more than 15,000 devices connected, utilizing over 390 TB of data.

This rollout precedes the launch of Dabba’s native cryptocurrency, aimed at fostering a marketplace where data consumers and infrastructure providers can transact. By focusing first on the infrastructure deployment before integrating Web3 technologies, Dabba ensures the real-world utility of its services, setting a foundation for sustainable growth and increased data accessibility.

Depin (Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Networks) has gained popularity for bridging blockchain and the physical world, enabling individuals and businesses to contribute resources like storage and computing power in exchange for cryptocurrency rewards. Depin advocates believe it promotes decentralization, community ownership, and fair pricing models for essential infrastructure services leveraging blockchain’s transparency and trustless consensus.
