The 3, 6 or 12-month subscription service of Telegram Premium can now be purchased with the crypto Toncoin (TON), via the non-custodial crypto-wallet Tonkeeper.
Telegram Premium subscription purchasable with the crypto Toncoin (TON)
The TON Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to the development of The Open Network (TON), has announced that from now on it will be possible to purchase Telegram Premium subscription service with Toncoin (TON).
TON is the native digital token on TON’s Blockchain and new purchases are possible through the Fragment platform.
In addition to that, it is possible to purchase the 3, 6 or 12-month subscriptions of Telegram Premium in TON and through the Tonkeeper non-custodial crypto-wallet.
In this regard, Andrew Rogozov, founding member of the TON Foundation commented:
“We’re delighted the Fragment team continues to deepen the integration with Telegram messenger and extend its functionality. Our goal is to create a user-friendly experience to bring blockchain technology to the masses, and we recognise that developments of this kind which serve Telegram’s extensive user base will help to accelerate the mass adoption of blockchain technology.”
Toncoin (TON) on Fragment to accelerate mass adoption of crypto
Fragment is a platform that supports secure and anonymous direct sales and public auctions. Launched in October 2022, Fragment is based on TON’s Blockchain.
Basically, the addition of TON to Telegram Premium’s subscription model is an additional service that will be available on Fragment, which already itself allows for buying and selling anonymous tokens and phone numbers.
Doing so would expand TON’s use cases and accelerate the mass adoption of crypto and its Blockchain.
In this regard, The Open Network (TON) is a revolutionary technology that combines all blockchain and Internet Web2 into a single open network. It was created to give billions of Telegram users the ability to access the real Web3.
Originally introduced by the Telegram team inheriting its ethos of freedom and openness, it has been run as an open-source community project since 2020. TON’s layer-1 architecture is designed to scale up to 2 to the power of 32 workchains, each of which can be split up to 2 to the power of 60 shardchains. It can support millions of transactions per second almost instantaneously.
The addition of USDT-TRC20 on Telegram
Recently, the messaging app Telegram announced that it has integrated the stablecoin Tether (USDT) running on the Tron network (TRC20 standard) into its crypto wallet function. This is the third crypto accepted by the app.
And indeed, at the moment users will be able to send Bitcoin (BTC), Toncoin (TON) and now Tether to each other even if only in its Tron-based version (TRC20-USDT).
Tether (USDT) now travels on several blockchains such as Ethereum, EOS, Omni, Polygon, Solana and many others. But the one chosen by Telegram is the version based on the Tron blockchain.
USDT is also the most popular stablecoin in the crypto space. And indeed, it ranks first in market capitalization compared to other stablecoins, and currently, its market cap is close to $80 billion.
