The Polygon zkEVM Public Testnet, an "Ethereum-equivalent" infrastructure with cross-compatibility to current smart contracts, toolchains, and wallets created on Ethereum and Polygon PoS, has been launched by the decentralized Ethereum scaling network Polygon. https://twitter.com/0xPolygon/status/1579513173639823360

zkEVM - A Layer-2 Extension

A layer-2 extension built on top of Ethereum called the Zero-Knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine (zkEVM) seeks to increase sustainability by merging multiple transfers into a single transaction. The testnet was introduced as a fully functional, open-source implementation of zkEVM by Polygon's zero-knowledge R&D team. Aave, Uniswap, Lens (a Web3 social network), and Midnight Society, a game development company, will be some of the first projects to launch on the zkEVM testnet.

zk-Prover Mechanism

As the platform leads the implementation of zk technology, Polygon urges Web3 developers to cooperate by releasing contracts and detecting issues. Developers may switch to zkEVM, which also contains a fully open-sourced zk-Prover mechanism, without needing to learn new programming languages and tools or translate existing code due to its full equivalence with the EVM. According to Mihailo Bjelic, a co-founder of Polygon:

"We invite the whole community to try out the testnet, help us test its limits, break things, and identify bugs, so we can altogether deliver the first zkEVM to the world!"

The statement underlines Polygon zkEVM's improved capital efficiency while helping companies to create decentralized apps quickly and affordably on Ethereum.

Launch Of Testnet For Layer 2 Network-Hermez

Yesterday, Polygon also launched a public testnet for Ethereum scaling solution Hermez. Polygon purchased Hermez late last year for $250 million. Hermez works on top of Ethereum and improves its scalability by enabling it to perform more transactions for a lower cost. Hermez is a zkEVM-based Layer 2 scaling solution that provides features that other Layer 2s do not, primarily in terms of security and application customization. According to Polygon, all programs, devices, and user wallets created for the Polygon Proof-of-Stake network will function on Hermez. This news comes just before zkSync's mainnet debut on October 28.
