Bitcoin’s rebound following the US midterm elections remains a fragile relief rally rather than a confirmed recovery, according to Utkarsh Ahuja, founder and managing partner at Moon Pursuit Capital, who sees a potential path toward $150,000 by the end of 2027.

In a written interview with Crypto Briefing, Ahuja said Wednesday’s rally reflected relief buying, short covering and improved sentiment after the election removed some political uncertainty. However, the recovery quickly reversed Thursday as selling pressure returned across crypto and traditional financial markets.

Bitcoin briefly reclaimed $80,000 on Wednesday before falling toward $75,000 on Thursday, as more than $1 billion in leveraged crypto positions were liquidated, according to CoinGlass data reported by CoinDesk.

Ahuja said markets had likely already priced in some probability of a Democratic victory, cautioning against interpreting either the rally or subsequent selloff as a direct verdict on the election results.

He added that further weakness in November would not be surprising as interest rate expectations and broader risk appetite remain unsettled.

Despite the near term uncertainty, Ahuja remains constructive on Bitcoin’s longer term outlook, seeing a potential move toward the $120,000 to $150,000 range by the end of 2027 if liquidity improves and sustained institutional demand returns.

The forecast is conditional rather than a fixed price target, he said, adding that Bitcoin’s historical four year cycle provides context but should not be treated as a reliable timetable.

Ahuja previously suggested Bitcoin may have already established its cyclical bottom, although he said this week’s price action does not confirm that view.

To identify a sustained recovery, he is watching for consistent spot buying, continued inflows into Bitcoin ETFs and the ability of BTC to reclaim lost price levels and maintain them during subsequent pullbacks.

Derivatives positioning will also be important. A sharp increase in open interest accompanied by elevated funding rates could indicate excessive leverage rather than healthy underlying demand.

On the regulatory front, Ahuja said Democratic control of Congress could delay or reshape crypto market structure legislation, including the CLARITY Act, with greater emphasis on investor protections, conflicts of interest and industry oversight.

While those developments could affect sentiment across digital assets, he considers global liquidity, interest rates and institutional demand more important for Bitcoin’s longer term trajectory.

The latest US employment report added another challenge to expectations of easier monetary policy. October payrolls increased by 165,000, exceeding forecasts of 65,000, while unemployment declined to 4.1%.

Ahuja identified stronger employment and inflation data, renewed technology stock weakness, geopolitical disruptions and persistent ETF outflows as the primary near term risks.

He also cautioned that weaker economic data would not automatically support Bitcoin if it raised concerns about a deeper economic slowdown.

The most supportive environment for a sustained recovery, he said, would involve easing inflation and improving liquidity without a significant deterioration in economic growth.
