Japanese Bitcoin treasury firm Metaplanet has acquired an additional 463 BTC for approximately $53.7 million, continuing its aggressive strategy to expand its crypto reserves. The latest purchase was made at an average price of $115,895 per bitcoin, bringing the firm’s total holdings to 17,595 BTC—valued at roughly $1.78 billion to date.
The move follows Metaplanet’s recent filing to raise up to 555 billion yen ($3.7 billion) via perpetual preferred shares, a financing route aimed at supporting its long-term Bitcoin accumulation strategy.
According to a Sunday statement on social media, the company is adopting a “Bitcoin standard,” focusing on increasing its BTC per share through capital-efficient methods like preferred equity issuance.
With this latest addition, Metaplanet ranks as the seventh-largest corporate holder of Bitcoin globally, trailing only behind several major crypto-focused entities and financial firms.
Despite the news, Metaplanet’s stock slipped 4.7% by midday Monday on Japanese markets. Meanwhile, Bitcoin saw a modest rebound, trading at $114,645 late Sunday night, up 0.8% over the previous 24 hours.
