Semler Scientific, Inc. has acquired an additional 167 bitcoins for $16.2 million, bolstering its total holdings to 3,634 BTC and securing its position as the fourth-largest Bitcoin treasury company in the U.S., according to a May 5 regulatory filing.

Semler Scientific’s Bitcoin Holdings Surge to 3,634 BTC with 22.2% YTD Yield

The Delaware-based company purchased the bitcoins between April 30 and May 2 at an average price of $97,093 per coin, funded by proceeds from its at-the-market (ATM) stock offering program. Since April 15, Semler Scientific has raised approximately $39.8 million by selling 1.17 million shares under the program, according to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filing.

As of May 2, Semler Scientific’s bitcoin holdings had a market value of $352.4 million, reflecting a $30.1 million unrealized gain over its aggregate $322.3 million purchase cost. The company’s disclosure says the average acquisition price per bitcoin stands at $88,668, inclusive of fees.

Semler Scientific introduced a Bitcoin Yield ( BTC Yield) metric, reporting a 22.2% year-to-date increase through May 2. The self-defined key performance indicator measures the ratio of bitcoin holdings to diluted shares, which rose to 13.26 million from 10.25 million in 2024 due to convertible notes and stock options.

The company cautioned that BTC Yield is not a traditional financial metric and does not reflect operational performance, stock returns, or bitcoin’s income potential. It emphasized that bitcoin ( BTC) purchases were funded through multiple sources, including stock sales and operational cash flow, and noted market volatility could affect outcomes.

Semler Scientific, which has not paid dividends, reiterated that stock ownership does not equate to bitcoin ownership. The filing urged investors to review its SEC disclosures, underscoring the metric’s limitations and reliance on favorable financing conditions. The news comes as Strategy (formerly Microstrategy) increased its holdings to 555,450 BTC.
