The Russian Ministry of Finance, which announced that Russia had started using Bitcoin ($BTC) in foreign trade in recent weeks, is now preparing to sell Bitcoin assets seized in the Infraud hack case.
Russia may begin liquidating 1,032 Bitcoins seized in a bribery case in 2023, with the first batch of $BTC to be sold valued at around $10 million, local Russian news agency TASS reported.
Marat Tambiev, a corrupt Russian official, had previously received a total of 1,032.1 $BTC from the Infraud hacker group.
According to TASS, the Russian Treasury Department has started transferring Bitcoins for sale.
In 2023, Russian authorities seized $BTC from Marat Tambiev, a former investigator at the Russian Investigative Committee who allegedly helped the Infraud hacker group in exchange for Bitcoin.
The former Russian investigator was found guilty of receiving 1,032.1 $BTC from the group and sentenced to 16 years in prison.
