Carol Alexander, a finance professor at the University of Sussex, has made a bold prediction about the future of Bitcoin, predicting that the BTC price could rise to $200,000 by 2025.

Speaking to CNBC, Alexander expressed confidence in Bitcoin's continued growth but warned that the high leverage in crypto trading would contribute to significant price swings.

“I am more bullish than ever for 2025,” Alexander said, adding that Bitcoin could “easily reach $200,000” by the end of next year. Alexander also predicted that Bitcoin would trade around $150,000 by the summer of 2025, with a potential range of plus or minus $50,000 due to ongoing volatility.

Despite his optimistic outlook, Alexander clarified that he does not own Bitcoin.

Alexander attributed his bullish stance to the expected regulatory clarity in the US, which he believes will provide significant support to Bitcoin. However, he warned that the absence of stricter regulation on crypto exchanges will continue to increase volatility in the market.

The high leverage on crypto trading platforms in particular is expected to cause sharp price swings, with trades amplifying both upward and downward movements in Bitcoin’s value.

Alexander has previously demonstrated his ability to accurately predict Bitcoin’s price movements. In 2023, he predicted that Bitcoin would reach $100,000 in 2024.

While Alexander’s price targets are optimistic, he noted the ongoing volatility problem in the cryptocurrency market. “There are no signs that volatility is abating,” he said, signaling that investors should be prepared for unpredictable price swings even as Bitcoin’s value rises.
