Former President and current Republican candidate Donald Trump has declared his intention to make the United States the global leader in cryptocurrency if he wins the upcoming November election.
Addressing attendees at the Bitcoin 2024 conference in Nashville, Tennessee, Trump, who arrived an hour late, expressed his admiration for the Bitcoin community. He likened the burgeoning crypto industry to the early days of the steel industry, emphasizing its potential for growth and innovation.
Trump praised Bitcoin, predicting that it could one day surpass gold in value. He highlighted Bitcoin as not just a technological marvel but also a testament to human cooperation and achievement.
In his speech, Trump also took the opportunity to criticize his political opponents. He made a veiled reference to presumptive Democrat nominee Kamala Harris, describing her as having a low IQ.
Shifting the focus to energy policy, Trump promised to utilize fossil fuels to generate abundant electricity, enough to exceed the nation’s needs. He also reiterated his intention to roll back federal incentives for electric vehicles and charging infrastructure.
Trump positioned himself as the ideal candidate for the cryptocurrency and Bitcoin communities, urging the crowd to vote for him. He assured them they would be pleased with his leadership, suggesting that if crypto is to shape the future, it should be mined, minted, and produced in America. Trump envisioned America leading the way in Bitcoin’s ascent, famously saying, “If Bitcoin is going to the Moon, I want America to send it there.”
