Former US National Security Agency employee and whistleblower Edward Snowden made a bold prediction about the future of the world's most popular cryptocurrency, Bitcoin.
In a recent tweet, Snowden claimed that this year it will be revealed that a national government in the world purchased Bitcoin without publicly disclosing this fact.
Snowden, who currently lives as a refugee in Russia, is known for leaking classified information about the National Security Agency's mass surveillance programs in 2013. Snowden has also been a strong supporter of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, which he sees as a way to protect privacy and resist censorship.
Snowden spent 40 days at Moscow airport, trying to seek asylum from various countries. After his asylum request was rejected by 27 countries, he settled in Russia, where he remains today.
Snowden's revelations in 2013 led to changes in the laws and standards governing American intelligence agencies and the practices of U.S. technology companies, which now encrypt much of their Web traffic for security. Snowden describes his life and experiences in the intelligence community in his memoir Permanent Record.
