Florida-based businesses will be allowed to pay state fees using cryptocurrencies from next year via a program proposed by the state’s governor.
The development is part of Florida’s cryptocurrency-related proposals, added to the state’s 2022 budget by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
According to a Bloomberg report, DeSantis made this known today in the state’s capital Tallahassee.
The governor, in his speech, reckons that Southern Florida is gradually becoming home to cryptocurrency enthusiasts and businesses, as they have flooded the city as a result of friendly regulation for the industry.
DeSantis said it intends to let people know that the asset class is welcome in the state and that the government is friendly toward digital currencies in general.
“Our view as the state government is this is something that we welcome and we want to make sure that the state government is crypto-friendly,” DeSantis commented.
Notably, the Florida State governor made the announcement during the presentation of the $99.7 billion 2022 budget, which is said to have a series of friendly cryptocurrency proposals.
The government is also planning to adopt blockchain technology for vehicle titles and Medicaid payments, the report added.
Florida Plans to Lure Crypto Businesses
While DeSantis did not indicate how the state plans to implement the move, the announcement is part of efforts to lure crypto and blockchain-related businesses into Florida.
Florida is not the first U.S. state to take a favorable approach toward cryptocurrencies in a bid to lure investors.

The development comes after cryptocurrency proponent Anthony Pompliano made a tweet last month requesting U.S. politicians to take his bait and become the first in the nation’s history to accept their paychecks in Bitcoin.
