Many in the crypto industry have been dreaming for years about being able to pay their way throughout the day with Bitcoin (BTC/USD), which may include using it for simple things like buying a meal, shopping for groceries, paying bills, and alike. While most such things are still not possible — at least not directly — buying a sandwich with Bitcoin is not perfectly within the realm of possibility.

Quiznos fans that are also cryptocurrency enthusiasts will be thrilled to know that diners at select Quiznos locations will now allow them to purchase meals with BTC. The new move brings the crypto industry one step closer to mainstream adoption, and it was made possible thanks to a new partnership between Quiznos and Bakkt.

From what is known. Bakkt Holdings recently teamed up with Quiznos to launch the pilot for a brand new BTC payment system. The system will allow Bakkt users to buy food at certain Quiznos locations, although, for the time being, only in Denver.

While this seems limited at first, it should be noted that one of the supported locations will be the Denver airport, which is a high-traffic location that sees countless people pass through every day. Furthermore, it is only the first step, and the number of supported locations is likely to increase in weeks, months, and years to come.

What did the officials say?

Bakkt’s Chief Revenue Officer, Sheela Zemlin, said that this is an exciting moment for the company, as it connected the next generation of customer experiences to the digital economy. Meanwhile, Quiznos customers are being introduced to unique experiences. Whether or not Quiznos will add more locations directly depends on the performance of the currently supported locations, and both Quiznos and Bakkt will monitor the pilot with great interest.

Mark Lohmann, the president of REGO Restaurant Group that owns Quiznos, said that he believes that the partnership will be beneficial for the company. He called Bakkt a very innovative platform, noting that it is appealing to the firm for a number of reasons, but mostly because it allows direct BTC payment at the Point of Sale. It is quick, easy, and it is expected to make customers excited about paying for their food.

Furthermore, Bakkt has already successfully increased crypto adoption among other major institutions, including GolfNow, and Starbucks, whose customers can use their digital wallets to reload their Starbucks cards.
