“I don’t know when they got into Bitcoin, but certainly that is not the community that I come from in Bitcoin,” Erik Voorhees said on a podcast, referring to toxic Bitcoin maxis.

According to a podcast, the actions of Bitcoin maximalists at the 2021 Bitcoin conference in Miami offended Erik Voorhees. Erik Voorhees is the creator and CEO of ShapeShift.

Voorhees, a Bitcoin pioneer who sees value in altcoins, appeared on a panel on day two of the Miami conference in June. “Did I hear someone on that preceding panel say, ‘If you’re against toxic maximalism, you’re against Bitcoin, and you’re against freedom?’” he remarked, causing a commotion.

He added:

“These guys were on stage extolling the advantages of poisonous maximalism. I’m not sure when they came into Bitcoin, but it is not the Bitcoin community from which I come.”

Poisonous Maximalism

Vorhees has spoken out against poisonous maximalism before. However, he said that the Bitcoin conference was the first time he felt “embarrassed by the individuals there.”

He claims that the “central banks, banking, and fiat currency” are the true enemies of Bitcoin and Bitcoin maxis. He reaffirmed that it is not the “Dogecoin community or Ethereum community.”

ShapeShift and THORChain

ShapeShift is a non-custodial cryptocurrency exchange based in Denver and Switzerland. In April, the platform announced a complete connection with THORChain. THORChain is a cross-chain DEX that allows for direct trade of Bitcoin, Ether, and Litecoin. THORChain, on the other hand, has been the victim of two multimillion-dollar hacking attacks this month. Additionally, a third, smaller attack also hit them.

Attacks on THORChain

THORChain came to a standstill on July 16 after a hacker stole $7.6 million in crypto assets.  However, an apparent white-hat hacker took $8 million in ETH last week.

According to Voorhees, the exploits demonstrate that THORChain still has a long way to go. However, the fact that it can provide a chain-agnostic DEX is a “major step for the industry”.
