Institutions deposit $33M in Hyperliquid to Coinbase: Is a HYPE sell-off coming?

Are institutions selling Hyperliquid? Lookonchain reported that Multicoin Capital deposited another 333,166 $HYPE worth $26.73 million into CoinbasePrime.

Six days ago, the firm had deposited 159.66k $HYPE worth $13 million. The deposit signals the likelihood that supply might hit the market. However, it’s vital to note that exchange deposits don’t necessarily mean being sold. However, it mostly leads to selling.

Hyperliquid Spot ETFs lean strongly bearish

In addition to Multicoin Capital deposits, it seems other institutions have been recently selling. A look at Hyperliquid Spot ETF flows confirms this sell-side activity.

According to SoSoValue data, the $HYPE Spot ETF last recorded net inflows more than a week ago. Since then, the funds have mostly recorded outflows.

The latest data showed that $HYPE Spot recorded -$8.18 million in net outflows, suggesting that most investors have been recently cashing out.

In fact, Onchain Lens reported one such market approach from Bitwise. According to the on-chain monitor, Bitwise’s BHYP ETF wallet deposited 84.32K $HYPE worth $6.71 million to Coinbase, with a likely intention to sell.

Bitwise has not bought $HYPE over the past week. The last time Bitwise saw a net inflow was the 4th of September. This suggests that investors here are mostly selling, most likely in a profit realization spree.

With institutions selling, the market behavior leaves $HYPE vulnerable and prone to downside pressure.

Why does the exchange flow tell a different story?

Although Multicoin Capital and Spot ETFs have been aggressively depositing, it seems the market is actively taking in the pressure. Moreover, it’s evident that some of these deposits are not being sold, as evidenced by Spot exchange netflow.

This metric has largely remained negative. At press time, netflow was around -$2.6 million, suggesting more $HYPE is being pulled out of exchanges.

One source of this demand arises from the Hyperliquid protocol itself. The protocol has been aggressively burning $HYPE tokens, which has worked perfectly well in reducing the supply available for immediate selling.

For instance, AMBCrypto earlier reported that Hyperliquid burned 32.77k $HYPE worth approximately $2.6 million. The token burns have gone a long way to reduce the token supply, which also helped in improving investors’ perception of the project.

Are bears still a threat?

Despite burns and buybacks, lack of institutional capital has resulted in short-term pressure. In fact, the altcoin holds below its simple moving average (SMA), which sits around $80.

On top of that, Hyperliquid’s MACD has been on a downward trajectory, falling to 2. This validates the bearishness. For now, the market pressure leans bearish and points to confined weakness.

If institutions continue to hold on the sell side, $HYPE is likely to revisit $76 and attempt another leg up. But a close above $80 will likely invalidate the bearish outlook and target $84.

  • Multicoin Capital deposited another 333,166 $HYPE worth $26.73 million into CoinbasePrime.
  • Bitwise’s BHYP ETF wallet deposited 84.32K $HYPE worth $6.71 million to Coinbase as ETFs hold firmly bearish
