Despite much of the Trump family launching a personalized meme coin at the time of the billionaire republican’s second inauguration, the commander-in-chief’s cryptocurrency has been taking up the bulk of the attention and the bulk of the volume.
The latest trend, however, was that the digital asset themed after the First Lady – OFFICIAL $MELANIA ($MELANIA) – modestly outperformed OFFICIAL $TRUMP ($TRUMP) in the short-term charts, despite exceptionally similar market behavior.
Specifically, $TRUMP soared roughly 75% within a single week late in August despite significant insider sales but, after an initial nosedive in subsequent trading, assumed a relatively decisive downtrend.
On the monthly chart, OFFICIAL $TRUMP is 31.09% in the green at $1.93 at press time on September 11, but is 40.8% below the highs it briefly held roughly three weeks ago.
OFFICIAL $MELANIA, on the other hand, held a relatively steady, if slow, uptrend after the initial post-upsurge plummet and was only taken lower as the flare-up in hostilities in the Middle East and the lineup of data on the U.S. economy drove the entire market lower.
Overall, $MELANIA first soared from $0.07 to $0.14, plunged to $0.10, and then slowly climbed above $0.11 by September 9. Finally, at its press-time price of $0.10, the meme coin is 35.93% up on the 30-day chart but is 28.57% under the late August highs.
The 2026 correlation between regular crypto market and Trump meme coins
Elsewhere, perhaps the most remarkable thing about the performance of the two Trumo family cryptocurrencies is how closely they have been trading to the overall cryptocurrency market in the last 30 days.
Indeed, the total market capitalization of digital assets soared from $2.18 trillion to $2.66 trillion in late August and has held relatively steady until external turmoil dropped it by roughly $60 billion to $2.59 trillion after September 9.
The correlation is made even more remarkable considering its recency. $TRUMP crashed 96% since the 2025 inauguration and $MELANIA 99%, while the total valuation of cryptocurrencies is down a significantly smaller 25% within the same time frame.
