$XRP has slightly recovered on Wednesday as buyers struggle to regain control amid a subdued broader cryptocurrency market.
The token trades at approximately $1.018, placing it dangerously close to the psychologically and technically important $1.00 support level.
A daily close below this demand zone could accelerate the decline and weaken the prospects of a near-term recovery.
While buyers may attempt to defend $1.00, the absence of strong market catalysts and persistent risk aversion could make it difficult for $XRP to establish a durable rebound.
$XRP ETFs struggle to attract institutional demand
US-listed spot $XRP exchange-traded funds have recorded muted trading activity since Friday, signaling limited participation from institutional investors.
The lack of fresh demand reinforces the bearish sentiment affecting the wider cryptocurrency market. Without consistent ETF inflows, $XRP may struggle to absorb selling pressure and recover above its key technical resistance levels.
However, the overall ETF picture is not entirely negative. Cumulative net inflows remain stable at $1.51 billion, while total assets under management stand at approximately $950 million.
These figures suggest that existing investors have not abandoned $XRP investment products entirely. Still, a meaningful recovery may require renewed daily inflows and stronger trading volumes.
The broader crypto Fear & Greed Index stands at 37 on Wednesday, slipping slightly from 30 the previous day.
The reading places market sentiment firmly in the “fear” category, reflecting weak demand for risk assets.
Geopolitical uncertainty, persistent inflation concerns and the absence of strong bullish catalysts continue to restrict investors’ appetite for cryptocurrencies.
Fearful conditions can encourage traders to reduce exposure or delay new positions, particularly in altcoins such as $XRP. Unless sentiment improves, any short-term recovery may encounter renewed selling pressure.
Activity in $XRP’s derivatives market is also weak. Perpetual futures open interest has declined by less than 1% and now stands at $2.69 billion on Wednesday.
However, the latest reading also represents an increase of approximately 41% from the $1.90 billion recorded on August 5.
Rising open interest indicates that traders are adding leveraged positions rather than closing existing contracts.
However, the metric does not reveal whether those positions are predominantly bullish or bearish.
If the increase is accompanied by positive funding rates and improving price action, it could support a trend reversal above $1.00.
Conversely, rising open interest alongside falling prices could signal an accumulation of short positions and increase downside volatility.
$XRP technical outlook: $XRP threatens to break below $1
$XRP maintains a bearish short-term bias as it trades decisively below its 50-day, 100-day and 200-day Exponential Moving Averages (EMAs).
The Moving Average Convergence Divergence indicator remains below its zero line, while its negative histogram reflects sustained bearish momentum.
Meanwhile, the Relative Strength Index stands at 39, just above the oversold threshold of 30.
The reading signals persistent selling pressure but does not yet confirm that sellers are exhausted or that a rebound is imminent.
A decisive daily close below $1.00 could validate a bearish continuation and expose $XRP to additional losses.
Buyers must therefore defend this psychological support to preserve the possibility of a short-term recovery.
On the upside, the 50-day EMA near $1.10 presents the first major resistance level. A daily close above this barrier could ease immediate selling pressure and allow $XRP to target the 100-day EMA around $1.18.

Beyond that, the 200-day EMA at approximately $1.37 represents a more significant obstacle.
Together, these moving averages form a dense overhead supply zone that $XRP must reclaim to establish a credible bullish reversal.
Until that happens, rebounds below the EMA barriers are likely to be viewed as corrective moves within the prevailing downtrend rather than the beginning of a sustained recovery.
