Apple has abandoned the idea of a metaverse for its augmented-reality headset, Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman has said.

His sources claim the very concept of metaverse is "off-limits" from the company. The enthusiast has written:

"The augmented-reality headset is Apple's real priority because it can be worn all day and, naturally, not take anyone out of their real environment."

Apple plans to use an augmented-reality headset for gaming, communication and content consumption, he has said.

The company plans to introduce the headset starting in 2022. The device could consist of three displays and will be priced up to around $3,000.

In September, sources reported Apple's virtual reality headset would require connection to an iPhone or other company device for full functionality.
