Virtual Reality goggles have made their way into the market and still failed to grab a large number of users on the ecosystem due the hefty price label they come up with. Recently, Apple announced that they will reveal their VR goggles dubbed Reality Mix Pro, this year. This won’t come as a surprise as the people have been hearing rumors for a long time, still they weren’t able to see it because of delays by the tech giant.
Are We Finally Getting The Headgear?
According to a Bloomberg report, it will be unveiled in 2023 during the Worldwide Developers Conference 2023. It was supposed to come out during the previous year conference, but again, was delayed due to some technical issues. The company has provided gadgets in the past though not affordable by many.
Meta, their biggest rivals in the metaverse race, has already unveiled Meta Quest Pro last year. It was met with a mixed review in the market especially due to its price. This also increased the questions whether a moderate income earner would be able to purchase this state of the art gadget or not.
People went skeptic regarding the biometric data collection feature of the headset. Company said that the device comes with in-built cams which would capture the eye and facial movements for betterment of the metaverse avatars in the future. During the 2010s, Meta (then Facebook) got involved in the infamous Facebook-Cambridge Analytica Scandal where the accused organizations sold user data for political campaigns.
Metaverse is a growing phenomena and VR, AR and MR will be the gateways to these virtual spaces. As of now, the only metaverses active across the globe including The Sandbox, Axie Infinity, Decentraland and more have not gone mainstream. Though several companies like Nike, Gucci, Samsung and more have set up their shops in these digital realms.
Moreover, several tech giants apart from Meta and Apple are actively developing the metaverse. Nvidia has Omniverse, a platform where developers can collaborate to develop metaverse applications. Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard in a $70 Billion deal. The company said that the collaboration will help in developing the metaverse.
People believe that the metaverse is going to be a decentralized and user-owned space. But the question remains how an industry be user owned where the companies like Meta and Apple are believed to rule the space.
