AMC Theatres, the largest movie theatre chain, is on its way to fulfilling its goal to start accepting payments for movie tickets in cryptocurrency by the end of the year. The giant franchise debuted crypto purchases for electronic gift cards.

Now, AMC customers can purchase electronic gift cards with Bitcoin (BTC/USD) and other cryptocurrencies directly through the AMC mobile app and website as well as on location at AMC theatres, CEO Adam Aron told CoinTelegraph.

BitPay, one of the main crypto payment processors, enabled the new payment option. Users can buy e-cards of up to $200 for now. Among the assets accepted for gift card purchases are Dogecoin (DOGE/USD), to which Aron turned special attention.

Last month, the CEO hinted that AMC would include DOGE in the list of cryptocurrencies the movie theater chain accepts for tickets by the end of this year.

140K users for DOGE

The CEO held a poll of 140,000 community members on Twitter, asking whether AMC should accept DOGE payments for tickets. There was overwhelming support for it. As Invezz reported this summer, Aron announced plans to accept Bitcoin payments for movie tickets.

Ethereum, Litecoin, Bitcoin Cash supported

Ethereum (ETH/USD), Litecoin (LTC/USD), and Bitcoin Cash (BCH/USD) will also be supported. AMC Theatres first revealed crypto support on August 9, after announcing it intends to accept BTC payments in all its US theatres. Following this announcement, AMC stock reportedly surged by 4%.

AMC is not the only company moving in this direction. Major Cineplex Group, the biggest movie theater operator in Thailand, introduced the option to let customers buy tickets with crypto earlier this year.

Crypto market grows over past 24 hours

Over the past 24 hours, the crypto market continued to grow. When the market opened today, most of the top 10 cryptos with the highest market cap were in the green. Bitcoin was up around 4% and Ethereum registered growth of around 2%. Outside the top 10, Dogecoin killer SHIBA INU (SHIB/USD) recorded growth of almost 60% with apparently no end to its ascent in sight.
