Hsiao-Wei Wang, co-executive director of the Ethereum Foundation, said that zero-knowledge proofs are central to Ethereum’s medium-term roadmap.

According to Wang, recent major technological breakthroughs demonstrate that years of theoretical research are now being combined with practical applications.

Wang noted that current network upgrades are primarily focused on increasing Layer-2 execution efficiency and expanding the blob space, while adding that zero-knowledge proofs are increasingly becoming a core feature at the protocol level. This transformation, he said, would enable Ethereum to move forward without sacrificing security, decentralization, and censorship resistance while addressing its scaling issues.

Ethereum researchers recently shared a native zkEVM plan that aims to verify network transactions with zero-knowledge proofs by default. This approach significantly reduces the computational load required to keep Ethereum secure, while paving the way for greater scalability in the long run. According to Wang, this technology increases network resilience without compromising verifiability and neutrality.

In his remarks, Wang also highlighted Ethereum’s core principles, stating that no matter how much the network architecture evolves, security, censorship resistance, neutrality, and long-term resilience will always remain a priority.
