Citi, one of the leading banks in the US, has shared new details regarding its previously announced digital asset custody service plan.
The bank stated that it plans to launch its new service later in 2026 and begin with Bitcoin.
Wall Street giant Citi’s new digital asset strategy centers around its Custody+ platform. According to the announcement, the bank plans to combine its custody services for traditional assets with its digital asset custody solutions under one roof.
The aim is to enable institutional clients to manage their traditional financial assets and cryptocurrency assets through a more integrated custody infrastructure.
It Will Start With Bitcoin!
Citi’s selection of Bitcoin as its first digital asset highlights Bitcoin’s priority position in its approach to the institutional crypto market. The bank states that it may include other digital assets on the platform in later stages of the service.
It is also stated that the new Custody+ platform is planned to be developed to accommodate both traditional custody services and the 24/7 trading nature of the digital asset market. In this way, Citi aims to enable institutional investors to manage both their traditional and digital assets within the same custody ecosystem.
