New York Education Department official caught mining at work

31 July 2017 21:00, UTC

The employee of NY Dept of Education Vladimir Ilyaev was discipilined after it became known that for several weeks he has been mining bitcoins at work. The decree on this was published by the Conflicts of Interest Board of New York, CoinDesk reports.

Ilyaev told that he’s been using the Bitcoin mining software every evening from 6 PM to 6 AM. He controlled the mining process remotely from his home during that time.

The Conflict of Interest Board decided that Ilyaev has violated the laws and regulations of the city by exploiting the time and resources of New York for his own profit. After examining the precedents, the Board declared that the violator will have to pay only $611 without any further penalty.

New York has seen some other cases of mining at work. Recently, for example, the network engineer from the Department of Education managed to avoid the penalty as there were no proofs of successful mining, though the Federal Reserve System Board of Directors member was not so lucky – he was penalized with $5000 and put under probation after mining with the use of one of the Central Bank servers.
