Press: the man who hijacked a US Army APC is an early ZenCash developer

07 June 2018 21:00, UTC

The man suspected in hijacking the U.S. National Guard APC has turned out to be a former ZenCash developer. This has been reported by a few outlets. The information is not verified.

The incident happened 6 June 2018 in the evening. Residents of the American state of Virginia were very surprised to see police cars chasing an APC (the press compared this to Grand Theft Auto):

As the public found out later, an unarmored APC (not the tank, like the press initially wrote) has been hijacked from the U.S. National Guard base Fort Pickett. The apprehended driver was intoxicated. Philip Yabut, 29, has had a relation to the early development of ZenCash, a cryptocurrency. This has been reported by the dev team in a Wednesday statement.

ZenCash team told that this man has once made a digital currency vulnerability known to public and those actions were reported to the FBI afterwards. The developers have declined to comment on this information to Associated Press, the spokeswoman of the local FBI office also has not responded to the journalists’ inquiries.

Due to the reasons above, the statement looks suspicious. What is actually seen from the suspect’s Twitter account is that he is a fan of Bitcoin Cash (BCH):
