Indian police officers arrested for Bitcoin extortion

10 April 2018 21:00, UTC

Nine Indian police officers have been caught after commiting a felony. As reported in technological media publications, they have successfully tried to persuade a local businessman to give them 200 bitcoins. Right now, Bitcoin costs $6865 on Coinmarketcap, which it makes 200 BTC worth $1,373,000.

The names of the suspects are not specified, but there is a mentioning of the state in which the crime has happened: Gujarat. The local police would be better off checking other officers of the region - maybe some businessmen simply did not tell anything after similar robberies took place.

This particular entrepreneur recalls an unknown location in which the rogue law enforcers have been interrogating him. Apparently, he decided not to argue much and transferred the required sum on another wallet.

The authorities of India are very suspicious towards Bitcoin and altcoins, with some of the civil servants openly calling for more regulations of the sphere. As it turns out, the police of India also needs more regulation.

Bitnewstoday has seen reports coming from its sources in Venezuela about another police agency which is not doing its job properly - although in that case, officers allegedly extort mining equipment.
