Chinese State Grid: we are not prohibiting energy from the Sichuan power plant for miners

14 November 2017 21:00, UTC

Recently, there have been some reports about the Chinese government that is going to lock miners out from power consumption of the Sichuan plant — energy is cheap in this region, so many miners of the country prefer to choose it.

The paper with the stamp of the local State Grid's Dan Ba county branch, supposedly sent to miners and posted online, told that mining is illegal practice. Such stern words without any previous announcements from the government of China on mining illicitness have surprised the cryptocurrency community and accelerated the issue of sensationalist, clickbait headlines like “China bans mining”.

After consulting with the company representatives, the community quickly found out that it was just the whim of the local Sichuan office: some of the terms of this internal message were indeed wrong, confirm the State Grid employees, and yes, it’s not for the State Grid to decide whether mining is legal or not. So it’s just the local hydropower plant not willing to share energy, concluded miners in other regions of China with relief.

However, after the news like this it’s better for Chinese miners to be ready for some Plan B in case the central authorities in Beijing decide to issue something similar one day.
