Washington Nationals to Explore UST Terra Stablecoin in DAO-Approved Partnership Deal

The Washington Nationals baseball team said on Wednesday it would "explore" stadium payments with Terra UST's stablecoin as part of a nearly $40 mln sponsorship. For the next five years, the baseball stadium's home VIP lounge will be called "The Terra Club" and will be heavily crypto-branded.

Accepting payments in UST will place the Nationals in a small but growing number of cryptocurrency-friendly sports stadiums. Mark CUBAN'S Dallas Mavericks basketball team began accepting DOGE last year. Meanwhile, the National Basketball Association's Sacramento Kings franchise used bitcoin as far back as 2014.

The Nationals sponsorship is also notable in that it crosses with cryptocurrency governance. Terra's Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAOs) voted overwhelmingly to partner with the American sports franchise for nearly $40 mln. Owners of the native token of the LUNA network took part in the voting, which ended on Tuesday.
