Russian VCIOM claims it will use blockchain for exit polls of presidential elections

04 March 2018 21:00, UTC

Just weeks before the presidential elections in Russia, the VCIOM (or the All-Russian Centre for the Study of Public Opinion) has announced that it was going to store the exit polls’ data on a special blockchain-based repository in cooperation with 2chain. This is going to be one of the first ever examples of blockchain-based survey in the world, as claimed by the representatives of the organization, and it will not allow any hackers to change the exit polls’ results.

And while there is no doubt that the final results will not be changed, there is a certain disadvantage with this Russian blockchain we are witnessing for the second time: just like in the case with Active Citizen, a voting platform, nothing prevents anyone from the mass injection of votes at the survey stage due to the fact that this blockchain does not verify the identity of the voters.

Blockchain voting systems is an issue that is currently being researched in the country the Russian authorities view as its rival, the United States. For example, Voatz is one of the startups dedicated to this theme. It has managed to attract two million dollars and engages with organizations which install the voting systems in America.
