Polish City Integrates Ethereum-Based Municipal Ecosystem

Olsztyn, the capital of the Warmia and Mazury Voivodeship in Poland, recently implemented blockchain to improve its municipal sector, including tourism and emergency services. While the region is still far from achieving its smart city goals, such as 1:1 scaling within the Internet of Things (IoT), it is already experimenting with innovative solutions that are being integrated and tested. This offers hope for faster adoption and deployment of sci-fi concepts.

The aim of the new smart city concept in the Warmia and Mazury Voivodeship is to provide visitors and residents with easy-to-navigate solutions that allow them to easily navigate the city using their own token. The token was originally developed as part of a broader vision of introducing blockchain technology into the natural circulation of municipal energy.

Maciej Bulkowski, Director of the Information Society Department at the Office of the Marshal of the Warmia and Mazury Voivodeship in Olsztyn, noted that the CoperniCoin project is intended not only to unite various areas related to the promotion of tourist attractions in the region, but also is an educational element that introduces representatives of different generations to new technologies.
