Hewlett Packard to establish its own blockchain in 2018

13 November 2017 21:00, UTC

What connects Hewlett Packard and Xerox aside from the fact that they both manufacture printers? Blockchain. Previously, it became known to the public through the open USPTO platform that Xerox want to patent some interesting and promising blockchain technologies, and now its rival, Hewlett Packard, has decided to work with the technology as well.

While the blockchain Xerox develops can be shortly described as a means to streamline paperwork and create a system of electronic documents, efficiently eliminating bureaucracy or at least moving it to a digital level. But Hewlett Packard Enterprise intends to combine the Corda platform developed by R3 (a powerful blockchain consortium consisting of wealthy banks and corporations) with its own technologies for identification and payments.

As Fortune specifies, HP’s blockchain is focused on airplane data, manufacturers’ supply chains (one of the most frequent themes in the blockchain projects) and potentially even central bank payments. Other interesting practical applications include a vacuum cleaner that can pay for used electricity all by itself.
