Bitcoin Cash or BCash?

05 December 2017 21:00, UTC

Companies which operate with both Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash started to mention the latter as “BCash”. This measure is to avoid the novices’ confusion between the regular Bitcoin that was invented by anonymous Satoshi Nakamoto 9 years ago with the independent Bitcoin Cash, a daughter currency that arrived due to the hard fork upgrade of the original Bitcoin protocol.

But, as it often happens nowadays, the obsessive fanbase started to act as the Inquisition and caused an outburst of frustration echoing through the social media. The core of this naming issue is the fact that the most loyal Bitcoin Cash fans consider this cryptocurrency a real Bitcoin, and shortening to “BCash” can leave an impression that it is actually not.

The situation became so heated that the popular Bitfinex exchange (popular, yet having some structural problems, as some outlets note) that quite recently introduced Bitcoin Cash payments, decided to change the mentions of BCash to Bitcoin Cash after it realized this is too unpopular. Some other organizations, for example, New Zealand-based Cryptopia exchange and statistics aggregator called Moonstats continue to call Bitcoin Cash “BCash”. What will eventually become more popular? Time will show.
