Australia Releases National Blockchain Roadmap

The Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources of Australia announced that it is ready to release a national blockchain roadmap. It is said on the website of the Department that blockchain provides new opportunities for improving processes and increasing efficiency in the economy. The blockchain can be advantageously applied in such areas as the wine sector trusted credentials in the university sector, financial and trade sector, healthcare and energy.

Preparation of the roadmap began in March 2019. According to the Minister for Industry, Science and Technology, Karen ANDREWS, the national blockchain roadmap is designed for five years and involves the joint work of regulators, startups and researchers. The minister also believes that the export of goods from Australia will benefit most. The most common product for export is wine — it is expected that the blockchain will provide reliable tracking of the wine origin and reduce the costs.

The sector is estimated at AU $ 259.4 billion, but the Australian government has not yet allocated funds to implement the roadmap. Earlier, AU $700,000 was sent to the country's Digital Transformation Agency in 2018-2019 to study the benefits of using blockchain for government payments. In addition, AU $350,000 was allocated to assist the development of international standards.
