A 54-year-old Sydney man has recently been found guilty of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm after he stabbed his brother nine times, believing that he had stolen his Bitcoin (BTC).

According to a local news report, the accused, Warren Shane Collins, had pleaded guilty to the charge during the court proceedings which took place at the New South Wales District Court on Tuesday.

As per the report, the brother of the accused, Ben Collins, had traveled from Melbourne to pay Warren a visit at his home in Sydney on July 26th, 2018. The duo started having problems when Ben used his brother’s phone to download YouTube in order to listen to music.

Warren started getting suspicious of his brother, believing that he wanted to hack his phone so as to gain access to his crypto assets. He also thought that his brother had been spiking his food with crystal Methamphetamine, popularly known as Ice.

However, it was discovered that Warren had been taking these hard drugs even before his brother came for the visit and that had caused him to become extremely paranoid and mentally ill.

They continued to quarrel over the issue for a few days before Warren decided to call his sister to inform her that he would have to send Ben away. Meanwhile, Ben was worried about the mental state of his brother and also called the sister to tell her that he would be leaving Warren’s house the next day.

On the morning that Ben would leave, Warren took a knife from his kitchen and stabbed him nine times while he was sleeping. On waking up due to the impact of the knife, Ben was shocked and wanted to know why Warren stabbed him.

Warren replied that he wanted to kill Ben because he had stolen his Bitcoin and that he would not go to jail because he would kill himself too. He then stabbed himself a couple of times on the stomach.

Meanwhile, Ben had been pleading for his phone so as to call emergency services but Warren refused. After two hours of lying in excruciating pains, he gave him the phone with which he called the police. Immediately the police arrived, Warren took two gulps of hydrochloric acid.

This acid damaged his digestive tracts and made it impossible for him to feed normally ever again. Ben had to undergo several surgeries to treat the various life-threatening injuries that were caused by the stabs.

Warren was later diagnosed with Schizophrenia in October 2019, which was caused by his use of the drug, Ice.

He was sentenced to a maximum prison term of seven years and would only be eligible for parole after three and a half years.

The judge in charge of the case, Judge Chris Craigie, said that he considered the “hours of utter terror experienced by the victim as he lay bleeding and facing what he believed was imminent death.”
