A hacker who obtained access to PwC Venezuela's Twitter account, one of the Big Four accountancy firms, has been actively publishing fake XRP giveaway phishing links over the past eight hours. The hacker uploaded the first tweet at 2:13 AM UTC with an image of Ripple Labs CEO Brad Garlinghouse with the three words "Problem, response, solution #XRP." Soon after, eight more tweets were posted. The fake tweets have received no response from Ripple Labs so far. The hacker still has the potential to deceive investors who click on the links. A delay in neutralizing the problem could have devastating consequences. PwC Veleneula currently has over 37,000 followers on Twitter.

Experts Warn Against Frauds

One method used by attackers in phishing attempts is to replace a character in a valid URL with a Unicode character that appears quite similar. Twitter, a social media platform, revealed earlier this month that it would be experimenting with a new feature that would permit users to modify tweets for a brief period after posting them. This announcement sparked concerns about whether this would promote suspicious attacks like that on PwC Venezuela's account. One specialist stated that if a tweet went viral, the writer might change it to a phishing link, capture the victim's data, or lead them to fraud. Twitter alleviated concerns by assuring users that the function has been tested on a modest scale with user input taken into consideration to reduce misuse.
