The blockchain research company Clovr published the results of a survey among more than 7,500 crypto related articles from 50 media outlets. Data paints a picture of bias, which is much more noticeable in certain sectors than others.

Articles spanning for 5 years, from January 2013 up to July 2018, were analyzed en masse by Clovr to produce a report about the treatment given to crypto by different media. They looked mostly at the sentiment of the stories, and also at price reactions to changes in the volume of news, as the graph below shows.

A surprising outcome of the study is the presence of Forbes and Business Insider as the most postivie media when talking crypto. A middle point would be CNBC, as more or less half of their articles were positive and the other half, negative. The most negative outlet was Breibart News, which out of 66 stories in the time researched, had not a single positive one about crypto. This contrasts sharply with Steve Bannon’s views, as the disgraced former Trump strategist recently said that crypto is 'revolutionary' and even announced the creation of a ‘token for the deplorables’.

As shown in the table above, Clovr researchers also classified media by their ideology. Analysis done on these categories evidenced that financial and liberal outlets were the most positive, meanwhile centrist or conservative ones tended to publish crypto content with a negative sentiment.
