  • A controversy has erupted online in response to reports that Cardano creator and Ethereum co-founder Charles Hoskinson may have lied about his school background.
  • According to Shin, both colleges confirmed that the Cardano creator studied as an undergraduate but did not receive a degree.

While it is hardly a significant controversy, there are different accounts about whether Hoskinson withdrew out of a Number Theory-focused Ph.D. program, as he stated, or if he increased the narrative. Laura Shin, the presenter of the Unchained Podcast and a crypto-journalist, stated in her new book and on social media that he never completed an undergraduate degree or enrolled in a Ph.D. program.

On March 6, a Twitter user indicated that they were reading Shin’s book “The Cryptopians” to obtain a summary of Hoskinson and Cardano’s early days as portrayed in the book.

What does Hoskinson have to say?

In response to the post, Hoskinson stated: “Excellent work of fiction.” It will be difficult for her to compete with George R.R. Martin and J.R.R. Tolkien and  we wish her all the best.”

Shin immediately responded to Cardano’s founder, asking, “speaking of fiction, do you want to address the differences between your claims of dropping out of a Ph.D. program and the institutions’ declarations that you were enrolled as an undergrad?”

The journalist’s book was released on February 22, and she noted in it that she called the Metropolitan State University of Denver, “which does not offer a graduate math department,” and the University of Colorado, where Hoskinson had studied.

The reality

According to Shin, both colleges confirmed that the Cardano creator studied as an undergraduate but did not receive a degree.

“According to the colleges, he did not complete his undergraduate” Furthermore, he has pinned on many occasions, including during our interview, that he dropped out of a Ph.D. program.”

Shin also stated that she provided Hoskinson and his staff “ample chance” to speak with her and express their thoughts, but they all ignored her. BitTorrent inventor Bram Choen weighed in on the chat, saying that she should also let everyone know that he “dropped out of undergrad” as well.

The community discussed whether Hoskinson’s statement about not finishing a Ph.D. was technically correct but a little deceptive, although Shin also mentioned an interview with him.

During the interview, Shin inquired if Hoskinson was pursuing a master’s or a Ph.D. when he first learned about Bitcoin.

The performance of Cardanao’s native asset ADA, like the rest of the crypto market, has recently experienced a dramatic downward trend. At the time of writing, ADA is down 26.9 percent in the last 30 days, sitting at $0.83. However, the price has increased by 3.5 percent in the last 24 hours, while many other prominent assets have had considerable increases in this span.
