Filmmaker Kevin Smith has recently made an announcement regarding his plans to release his latest horror anthology, “Killroy Was Here” as an NFT. The announcement revealed that the owner of the nonfungible token will get the rights to manifest, distribute, and broadcast the work, making it an income generator beyond trifling resale.

Kevin Smith Selling Rights of ‘Killroy Was Here’ as NFT

As shared by the filmmaker on Tuesday, the Twitter post of Kevin Smith said:

“In 1994, I brought my first film to Sundance to sell. Now in 2021, I’m bringing my new movie to CRYPTO to sell! “

Kevin is going to auction his work on his independent crypto gallery named “Jay and Silent Bob’s Crypto Studio.” He said that cryptocurrency provides a brand new platform to tell a story. On April 14, he shared a tweet that said:

“I BELIEVE WHOEVER BUYS IT WILL AT THE VERY LEAST SELL IT TO A STREAMER. THEY BUY AN NFT WHICH ALSO GRANTS THEM OWNERSHIP OF THE PHYSICAL MEDIA FILES FOR KILLROY WAS HERE – THUS IN AN EFFORT TO SUPPORT ANY KIND OF THEATRICAL DISTRIBUTION.”

He revealed in the tweet that back in the year 1994, he took his first flick to Sundance to sell it. Now in the year 2021, he is going to take his new flick to the crypto market to sell it.

In addition to this, he said that Killroy Was Here is going to be the first movie to be sold as NFT and the winner in the auction will have the right to even distribute the film.

Semkhor And Regular Drops

Smith works with Semkhor, a media, and technology firm that operates to produce and distribute nonfungible tokens.

The studio will be hosting ‘Regular Drops’ which are created around “Smokin’ Tokens” perpetuating several Jay and Silent Bob movies and the characters who played there.
