Payments giant Visa has launched a Creator Program where selected artists, musicians, fashion designers and filmmakers will be supported to grow their businesses through the use of non-fungible tokens (NFT).

Creators Building Businesses With NFTs

Visa’s Creator Program will be a one-year immersion program aimed at nurturing a “global cohort of artists” in exploring NFTs as a viable business approach. The company will support in the form of technical and product mentorship, community building, access to thought leaders, exposure to Visa clients and partners, and a one-time stipend. One of the first Creator Program participants is former professional baseball player turned NFT artist Micah Johnson who launched his NFT character Aku last year.

“NFTs have the potential to become a powerful accelerator for the creator economy. Through the Visa Creator Program, we want to help this new breed of small and micro businesses tap into new mediums for digital commerce,” said Cuy Sheffield, Visa’s head of crypto in a statement.

Accelerating the Creator Economy

Visa touted the $100 billion estimated size of the creator economy as the main reason why the program was launched. The payments company initially showed interest in NFTs in August last year when it bought CryptoPunk.
