MBC (Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation), one of South Korea's four national TV and radio networks, has signed a business partnership agreement with Hong Kong-based metaverse gaming platform The Sandbox. MBC will create its iconic Sangam office building and production studios in a virtual space along with other original metaverse content for The Sandbox users.

The Sandbox has partnered with many South Korean companies, including local entertainment giant CJ ENM and major K-pop agencies SM and Cube Entertainment. Last year, MBC included metaverse avatars for non-celebrity judges for The Masked Talent, a spinoff of acclaimed variety show The Masked Singer.

The South Korean cable TV network is currently also broadcasting Avatar Singer, which is described as the first survival music show in the metaverse. Avatar Singer uses augmented reality (AR) avatars to hide the identity of the members.
