The NFT scene is hitting MTV.

Hip-hop megastars Eminem and Snoop Dogg are slated to perform a live Otherside-themed show this Sunday at MTV’s Video Music Awards.

The performance, which the press release called “one-of-a-kind,” is being developed in partnership with Yuga Labs. The stage is expected to be transformed to reflect the design studio’s metaverse aesthetic and NFTs. According to the announcement, this will mark the first time an award show hosts a metaverse-inspired performance.

The Otherside metaverse is the realm created by Yuga Labs, the company behind the famous Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) NFT collection. Launched in April 2021, the project saw adoption from celebrities such as Paris Hilton, Jimmy Fallon, and Justin Bieber. After minting for around $200, they peaked at a price of around $435,000 in May; the cheapest pieces of the collection are currently trading for 77 ETH (worth roughly $130,900) on OpenSea.

Snoop Dogg and Eminem, who bought their own Bored Apes at the beginning of the year, will be performing “From The D 2 The LBC,” a rap collaboration they released in June, which is nominated in the Best Hip Hop category. The music video heavily features BAYC-themed animation; it currently has over 46 million views.

Other components of the Otherside metaverse include Mutant Apes, Otherdeeds land plots, and ApeCoin, the cryptocurrency that serves as a utility and governance token for the ecosystem. An Otherside game is also in the works, as is a trilogy of short films centered around Bored Apes. Luxury brand Gucci recently announced that select stores in the United States would now accept payments in ApeCoin.

Disclosure: At the time of writing, the author of this piece owned ETH and several other cryptocurrencies.
