Coinbase Pro will be listing Internet Computer's ICP once it goes live
- Coinbase announced that its Coinbase Pro cryptocurrency exchange will be listing ICP, the governance token of the Internet Computer, once they become available for transacting on the network. The company also said that it plans to support ICP on its Coinbase Custody platform. Internet Computer is developed by the DFINITY Foundation, and the project was previously known as DFINITY.
- ICP is one of the few tokens that will be available for trading on Coinbase Pro right after its launch. Other examples include The Graph’s GRT token and Ampleforth’s FORTH token.
- The Internet Computer’s Genesis event is planned for tomorrow (Friday). The Network’s alpha mainnet has been running since December last year. As part of the event, ICP tokens will be unlocked.
- The Internet Computer platform is designed with a focus on scalability for decentralized applications, with the team claiming that the blockchain platform runs with "the power, speed and scale of the Internet".
- Dominic Wilkins, the chief scientist of the DFINITY Foundation, outlined the project’s ambitious vision of being the biggest innovation in blockchain since Bitcoin and Ethereum:
"The Internet Computer represents the third major innovation in blockchain after Bitcoin and Ethereum. The first blockchain to support smart contract software that runs at web speed, serves user experiences directly to users, and scales its compute capacity without bound — increasing the potential applications that can run on a public blockchain, as well as improving the reach of today’s blockchain ecosystem." - According to Crunchbase, Internet Computer / DFINITY have managed to raise $166.9 million in funding so far. This includes a $102 million round raised in 2018 that included investors like Andreessen Horowitz and Polychain Capital.
