Controversial Australian crypto figure Craig Wright has made an official statement claiming that he is Satoshi Nakamoto. The comment was filed to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), and effectively means that he is willing to testify under oath to being the real Satoshi.
The comment was made in response to a general request by the CFTC for information about 'crypto asset mechanics and markets', on its official website, and was picked up by Reddit members as well as CNBC's Ran Neuner.

Wright, who was recently involved in the hardfork of the Bitcoin Cash blockchain to create Bitcoin Cash SV (Satoshi's Vision), claims that he started the Bitcoin (BTC) project back in 1997. It was apparently supported partly by the Australian government, and was motivated by fraud prevention efforts. He also points out the amount of misinformation he believes has been spread about him, and criticizes the ICO market as being designed primarily for scams.

Craig Wright has repeatedly claimed to be Satoshi in the past, initially with enough authority to convince many major global media outlets. The proof he provided has mostly been debunked since that time, and this most recent comment is the strongest commitment he has made to the claim for many years.

As usual, observers on Twitter were not convinced by Wright's claims. The general consensus now seems to be that he is less likely to be the real Satoshi than pretty much anyone else in the crypto space.
