Erik Voorhees took to crypto twitter today and made the bold claim that most people panicking over the recent dip are new to crypto. This was met with mixed responses, some feeling it was on the money and others finding it a bit pretentious.

Tally the folks freaking out about crypto prices, and you’ll discover 95% of them got into crypto in 2015 or later.

Some people felt that this was an accurate assessment:

To be honest, I'd say 80% of them got in 2017 or later.

...and 95% of those 95% got into #crypto in Q4 2017 pic.twitter.com/3JWILXSt78

2015 is being generous, it's more like late 2017 in my opinion. People who have never seen Bitcoin below $1k. In 2015 Ethereum was barely $1 and Bitcoin was in the low hundreds. Still far away from today's prices.

While others were of the mind this is just shaming new folk who really should be encouraged:

But that’s fine and people who have been in longer shouldn’t be shaming the new people. That’s how you alienate people and hurt the movement. Older crypto people freaked out at previous price crashes all the same.

That’s how mass adoption works , in stages.

I mean, realistically speaking about 95% of people holding crypto in general got in after 2015. So it wouldn’t be a surprise for this statistic to turn out true.

While the statement may be a bit controversial, it also may not be completely inaccurate. In any event, a lot of support came out for both new and old folks staying calm in this troublesome time.
