The Ethereum Altair upgrade is coming in October, which is a significant step toward the launch of ETH 2.0. Ethereum’s long-awaited Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus model is moving closer as developers recently confirmed the date of the Altair upgrade.

On September 15, the Ethereum Foundation also published a document about the Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIP). Further, the team said that a hard fork of the ETH 2.0, Beacon Chain, is planned for 5 months after genesis.

According to the statement in the blog,

This upgrade brings light-client support to the core consensus, cleans up beacon state incentive accounting, fixes some issues with validator incentives and steps up the punitive params as per EIP-2982.

In addition, the team said that ETH 2.0 is also called Serenity, which is the long-planned upgrade of Ethereum to a scalable, proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus.

Moreover, ETH 2.0 strives to fulfill the original vision of Ethereum to support a global-scale, efficient, general-purpose transactional platform while retaining high cryptoeconomic security and decentralization.

On Tuesday, Ethereum went down as China announced that crypto trading in the country is not protected by law. According to CoinMarketCap, Ethereum is trading at $2,924.14 with a 24-hour trading volume of $16,641,131,296.
