Caffè Barbera, Italy’s oldest roasting company with over 150 years of history, said today that it wants to continue the process of technological innovation by tracking processes with blockchain.

Summary

Caffè Barbera continues on the blockchain path

This statement comes after announcing a few months ago the possibility of making purchases of coffee also with cryptocurrencies on the e-commerce Caffebarberashop.com, thanks to the collaboration with Algorand and BleumiPay.

The entire supply chain of Caffè Barbera, therefore, will be based on the blockchain.

The press release issued today by Caffè Barbera reads

“The willingness to live an ideal way in which, by simply using a mobile device, you can know absolutely everything about what you are drinking or eating: from details on the origin of the producing company, to indications on the processing, dates of storage, shipping and expiration of the product”.

Blockchain and innovation

This is an important step for Caffè Barbera, which once again demonstrates a very strong propensity for innovation in a traditional product, thanks to blockchain and based on aspects linked to the values of ethics and sustainability.

Elio Barbera, Managing Director of Caffè Barbera said:

“We were the first in the industry to have introduced the possibility to purchase our coffee also with cryptocurrencies on our e-commerce portal. A courageous choice that the market has rewarded even beyond our wildest expectations. This is where the incentive comes from to always look carefully at what technological innovation can bring in terms of value for our product. Thanks to the implementation of a decentralized blockchain protocol capable of validating our precious supply chain and demonstrating to our consumers the long journey of coffee, from the plantation to the cup, we have placed the emphasis on an aspect that is fundamental for us: making everyone aware of the positive impact that a policy shared by all players in the supply chain can have on society and the environment.”

All this is happening in the very year that the company is celebrating its 150th anniversary. In addition to Algorand, Caffè Barbera also accepts payments in Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH) and Ripple (XRP) on its e-commerce site.
