Bitcoin high of $19,900 was exactly one year ago today, Dec 2017 vs Dec 2018
One year ago today, Cryptocurrency was all the rage with BTC hitting its all time high of $19,900 according to CMC. The total market cap of BTC alone was 3x higher than the total market cap today, So how did it all look one year ago compared to today?
Since January 2018, the market has taken a massive hit and has continued to decline for the past 11 months. BTC recently hit a new yearly low of $3,200 with the total market cap also hovering our new yearly lows of $100 billion.
Hard to believe this time last year, BTC was pushing close to $20,000 each, Ethereum was over $700 and BCH was over $1,800. The total market cap of ethereum and bitcoin cash alone, was equal to the entire market cap of today at $103 billion.
No defunct ponzi-scheme project Bitconnect, was ranked #17 on CMC, valued at a ridiculous $453 each.
Verge (XVG) saw an unprecedented rally which surged the price 161% in one day, 655% in one week.
It has been a year since the bull market of 2017 rallied BTC to new highs and signaled a month long rally for altcoins which eventually would see the total market cap reach over $815 billion. Speculation was rife that by the end of 2019, we would see a $2 trillion market, but that was not to be seen. 2018 has instead been a year of regulatory oversights and price corrections. Perhaps in one year we can all look back on 2018 and smile when we compare prices again.
Let's hope for a more exciting 2019.
