Bitcoin advocate Charlie Shrem Explores Expanding Into Films In A Big Way

Charlie Shrem is a well-known American entrepreneur and bitcoin advocate who founded the startup company BitInstant, which is defunct today. Charlie Shrem is also a member of the bitcoin foundation. The controversial investor who also served two-year imprisonment for operating an unlicensed money-transmitting business will be backing his first venture into films.

deadline.com reports that Charlie Shrem will be making his debut as an executive producer for “Ask Me To Dance.” It is a rom-com that stars “Step Up” fame Briana Evigan and will be supported by Tom Malloy and Joyce DeWitt. It will; also feature Mario Cantone. The first shooting schedule is already progressing in Rochester, New York, with Malloy as the writer/director. The film is a Trick Candle Productions feature.

Charlie Shrem is an avowed Bitcoin fan and first started dabbling in Cryptocurrency when he was a college senior. He also founded the BitInstant service, which enabled a pathway to convert money into bitcoin directly. At one point, 30% of all BTC transactions were happening through BitInstant.

Served two-year jail term

Shrem gained notoriety when he was awarded a two-year sentence for being involved in money transmission without necessary permissions. However, he climbed back and is now engaged as an advisor for many cryptocurrency ventures and recently launched a podcast and website.

Crossover between film, new media, and finance

Talking to deadline.com, Shrem said that he had started a podcast named ‘Untold Stories’ when he realized that he loved media. “Ask Me to Dance” will be his first venture as a producer in films. Shrem added that there is a significant opportunity to entertain and make money for those who have made fortunes in Cryptocurrency.
