Mark Zuckerberg Names His Pet ‘Bitcoin’

On May 11, Mark Zuckerberg posted a photo on Facebook, showing two of his pet goats with the caption: “My goats: Max and Bitcoin.” At the time of writing, the story has generated more than 928,000 likes, 183,000 comments, and 18,000 shares on the platform.

The Crypto community is speculating whether the revelation hints at Zuckerberg announcing a personal investment in Bitcoin or through Facebook in the near future.

For instance, Morgan Creek Digital’s Anthony Pompliano speculated, if Zuckerberg was coming out as a Bitcoin “maximalist.”

While, Anthony Scaramucci, the founder of SkyBridge Capital, tweeted that Zuckerberg’s hiring of David Marcus from PayPal Holdings to run Facebook’s crypto business only shows the Facebook CEO’s interest in the leading cryptocurrency.

I knew Mark Zuckerberg would become a #Bitcoin-er when he hired David Marcus from PayPal to run @Facebook’s crypto business. It’s been a long and winding road, but welcome to #Bitcoin. Great job Zuck and David. Excited for what comes next.

Besides the positive and meme-generating responses, some users recalled Zuckerberg’s “personal challenge” to only eat meat he had killed himself, while queried about Max and Bitcoin’s futures.

Could Zuckerberg Create Buying Frenzy Among Bitcoiners?

A few weeks earlier, reports were circulating with the speculations that Facebook will announce its Bitcoin investment during the Q1 2021 results. Even though that didn’t turn out to be true, the latest post from Zuck gives rise to a fresh set of speculations.

It is yet to be seen if Zuckerberg’s post initiates a “buying frenzy” in Bitcoin similar to Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk’s Twitter references to Dogecoin that usually creates a price hike in the meme-based cryptocurrency.

Facebook has been involved in the crypto space since 2018. The company even has plans to launch its own stablecoin Libra (now Diem) backed by a basket of fiat currencies.
